Research Shows Gyms are Safe
According to the University of Oregon's Consulting Group, health clubs don't have the same risks that restaurant and bars do. An analysis of data from Colorado shows no link between going to the gym and catching the COVID-19 virus. In New York only .06% of 46,000 COVID-19 cases could be traced back to a gym.
So why are gyms and health clubs closed in Oregon?
Gym owners, including The Gym, are following all CDC and OHA guidelines and protocols, including social distancing, increasing ventilation, strict sanitization requirements and required the wearing of masks. Those precautions working and the research shows it.
Research also shows that restricting access to gyms and health clubs has a devastating, long-term effect on the emotional, social and physical well-being of Oregonians. We all know that exercise is helpful maintaining mental health. Older members need to use The Gym's exercise machines to maintain their mobility and Vets who manage their PTSD through exercise need access to gyms. Research also shows that healthier people, especially people who have healthy cardio-vascular systems are better able to resist serious infections like COVID-19.
Join the Gym in asking Governor Kate Brown to reconsider her closing of gyms and health clubs and stop prohibiting access to facilities that Oregonians need to maintain their mental and physical health.
At The Gym, we know it has been a tough year for everyone. We are looking forward to when we can open up and see your sweaty faces back at The Gym.
