Forest Grove Beehive According to a study done by the CDC, it is estimated that 20% of people aged 55 years or older experience some type of mental health concern. What should family members be aware of and what signs should they look for in the senior loved ones?

Shutting down. If your senior is not talking as much or withdrawing from activities they like, they may be focusing on their mental battles.

Decreased coherency. If your senior is unable to complete simple tasks or speak well, it may be due to bigger problem like dementia, or they have a lot to dela with mentally.

Mood swings. Lashing out or acting out of character may point to a mental health problem. Loneliness, anxiety or depression can cause unusual behaviors in seniors.

Diet changes. People eat less as they age, but if they are forgetting to eat or have no appetite at all that is a problem.
