Human remains found at Gales Creek May 14 have been positively identified as belonging to Daniel Lemire, 51, from Hillsboro.

On May 14 at about 4:30 p.m., deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were called to a rural area in the community of Gales Creek concerning the discovery of human remains.

A Clean Water Services contractor was spraying noxious weeds along Gales Creek about a half mile west of Southwest Roderick Road when the remains were discovered.

Lemire was reported missing by a family member April 15. The family member relayed information to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office indicating that Lemire may have been suffering from mental health issues.

The family told deputies they believed Lemire left in his truck and was possibly going somewhere to harm himself.

On April 21 WCSO deputies located Lemire’s truck at the Gales Creek Campground located on Highway 6, west of Banks.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office activated its Search and Rescue team, assisted by volunteers, and searched the area for over three days without locating Lemire.

The Washington County Forensic Science Unit responded to search for evidence and process the scene.

Lemire’s remains were identified through Oregon State Crime Lab analysis. There were no signs of trauma to Lemire.

It appears he may have succumbed to the elements.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in this case. Anyone with any information is asked to call the WCSO at 503-629-0111.
