Charles Merrill, 76, appears to have fallen into family pond while fishing
A 76-year-old Aloha man died last week after he apparently fell out of a boat while fishing at a private lake northwest of North Plains.
Charles Merrills body was found submerged later in the day Aug. 17.
Washington County Sheriffs deputies and North Plains Police Department officers were called to the 25200 block of Northwest Braga Road after family members found a capsized boat but no sign of Merrill, who lives in Aloha but often fished in the 1-acre pond on family-owned property in the Dairy Creek Valley, according to Sheriffs spokesman Sgt. Bob Ray.
Arriving deputies found that the boat was unable to drift due to heavy vegetation in the lake. They called the Clackamas County Sheriffs Offices dive team to search the pond. Members of the dive team found Merrills body near the boat at 4:55 p.m. that day.
It does not appear that Merrill was wearing a life jacket.
The Washington County Medical Examiner believes that Merrill suffered a medical issue that caused him to fall into the water.
