The city of Hillsboro's outdoor ice skating rink has been closed due to ice.

No, really.

Citing the imminent winter storm expected to hit the Portland area on Thursday, city officials tweeted Thursday morning that Winter Village, the Portland area's only outdoor ice skating rink, would be shutting down for the day.

The rink is expected to reopen Friday with its regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The outdoor skating rink opened Dec. 2, and city officials said they expect to see between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors over the holiday season.

This is the second year the city has hosted the outdoor skating rink. Organizers said the rink is meant to give families something fun to do together during the holidays.

Winter Village is no stranger to harsh weather conditions. Last year, a snow storm shut down the ice rink on what would have been its last day of the season.
