Bonamici to meet constituents in North Plains
U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici will take questions from constituents at a town hall meeting on Sept. 16 at the Jessie Mays Community Center, 30975 N.W. Hillcrest Street, in North Plains.
The Beaverton democrat announced six town halls, visits to North Plains, Tualatin,Yamhill, Columbia City, Portland and Cannon Beach, over the next month.
Bonamici has been vocal in her support of Deferred Action Childhood Arrival program users, which protects undocumented people brought into the United States as children. Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the DACA program would be phased out.
"Deporting people brought to this country as children is heartless, doesn't improve national safety, and will have a detrimental effect on our economy," Bonamici said in a statement after the announcement. "America is better than this; we don't -- and shouldn't -- penalize children for the actions of their parents."
Bonamici has also been supportive of SolarWorld in its trade case against Chinese product dumping in front of the U.S. International Trade Commission. A decision is expected by the commission on Sept. 22.
The North Plains town hall is scheduled to begin at noon.
