Family Fiesta gears up for second year
The second-annual Hillsboro Family Fiesta is kicking off next weekend with plenty of food, music and cultural activities.
The event, hosted from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at M&M Marketplace, 346 S.W. Walnut St., and sponsored by the city of Hillsboro, is the brainchild of M&M's owner, Jaime Miranda, who launched the event in 2017 as a way to bring Latino and Anglo cultures together.
"Building community has been my goal," Miranda said at the launch of the event last year. "I think the community has a need, and sometimes I see it and try to make things happen."
The second annual community event will feature fun activities for all ages at M&M's indoor market, including photo booths, prizes, face painting, an arts and crafts table and plenty of delicious food from the market's vendors.
In addition to the fun, the city will have plenty of informational booths on city services, from police and fire, to parks, public works and the city's library system.
