Hillsboro man killed in Tillamook County crash
Oregon State Police say a Hillsboro man died in a car crash early Tuesday morning near the Oregon Coast.
Ulysses Reyes Semsem, 58, died March 13 after his vehicle slammed into a FedEx truck on SR Highway 18 near milepost 12, near Rose Lodge.
Oregon State Police were called to the scene at 4:15 a.m., where investigators discovered Semsem's body. According to investigators, Semsem had been traveling eastbound on SR Highway 18 when his 2015 Dodge Caravan took a curve in the road too wide, crossed the center lane and crashed head-on into a FedEx commercial truck traveling westbound.
Semsem died at the scene.
The FedEx truck, driven by 59-year-old Ruby James of Coos Bay, went over an embankment and fell 75 feet before coming to a stop in a creek, which feeds into the Salmon River, police said.
James and a passenger in the truck, Tony Kimber, 54, of Yoncalla, were taken to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash closed the highway for several hours, and HazMat teams were called to clean up fuel and fluid which leaked from the vehicles.
Oregon State Police was assisted by Grand Ronde Tribal Police Department, North Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Polk County Sheriff's Department, Oregon Department of Transportation, Tillamook County Medical Examiner and the Tillamook County District Attorney offices.
