Quatama principal headed to Witch Hazel this summer
Witch Hazel Elementary School will have a new principal next year.
Christy Walters, current principal at Quatama Elementary, will move to Witch Hazel in southern Hillsboro starting July 1.
Walters have worked in Hillsboro since 2006. She worked as a reading specialist at Eastwood Elementary before moving to Witch Hazel as an instructional coach in 2010. She was named principal of Quatama four years later.
Witch Hazel has been without a principal since last fall. Principal Jennifer Hernandez left the school in October, leaving the elementary school to retired administrators Janis Hill and Crystal Schmidt-Dipaola, who have served as co-interim principals for the past five months.
"Mrs. Walters has done an amazing job as an inclusive and active leader who is focused on the success of all students," the district said in a release earlier this week. "The school has been nationally-recognized for its STEAM programs, and enjoys a vast network of parent and community partners that supports students and staff in a variety of ways."
Hillsboro School district plans to meet with Quatama-area parents and community members at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20. The district says it would like to hear from the community about what people would like to see in Walters' replacement.
