The symphony will perform selections from the 1940 animated Disney film 'Fantasia.'

               The Hillsboro Symphony Orchestra is feeling animated.

The all-volunteer symphony is gearing up for its next concert on Friday, May 11, where musicians will perform selections from the 1940 Disney film "Fantasia."

The show is set for 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2194 S.E. Minter Bridge Road. The symphony will perform "Night on Bald Mountain," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," "Dance of the Hours," "The Pastoral Symphony" and "Russian Dance," "Arabian Dance," "Chinese Dance" and "Dance of the Reeds" from "The Nutcracker Suite."

Musicians will host a reception following the concert. A raffle drawing at the end of the concert will give one lucky winner will get the chance to conduct the orchestra next season.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $8 for children and seniors. Children 12 and younger are free.

Tickets are available at the door, online at or at MIR Music, 331 E. Main St., in downtown Hillsboro.

Conductor Sharon Northe will be joined by assistant conductor Valery Saul, who made her debut with the symphony in March, as well as guest conductor Kathy Brown, who also performs as the symphony's bassoonist.
