One person was pinned inside their car after striking the horse, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue said

Firefighters with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue were called to rural Hillsboro on June 16, after an escaped horse was struck by a passing car near Farmington Road and Rood Bridge Road.

In a statement posted to Twitter shortly before midnight Saturday evening, TVF&R officials said emergency responders were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash, after the car collided with a horse which had escaped a nearby home and ran into the roadway.

One person was pinned inside the vehicle. The horse was killed in the collision.

Two people were in the car at the time of the crash. One was trapped inside the vehicle and needed emergency responders to remove her from the vehicle, according to TVF&R spokesman Stefan Myers. She was taken to Oregon health & Science University hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed for hours during the investigation.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office and Hillsboro Fire Department assisted with the case.
