Residential road to close for two months while culvert is replaced, officials say.

Hillsboro road crews plan to close a north Hillsboro neighborhood road for two months while crews replace a stormwater culvert in the area, the city announced this week.

Starting in July, crews will close Northeast Lorie Drive between Lenox Street and Lindsey Drive, city officials said Thursday, June 28. The closure is expected to last through August.

Glencoe Creek flows under the road not far from the intersection of Lorie Drive and Lenox Street, about a block of Jackson Elementary School. Crews plan to install a 75-foot-long culvert underneath the road, allowing Glencoe Creek to flow underneath the road, city officials said.

"The completion of this project will prevent Glencoe Creek from flowing over the top of the roadway during large storm events," city officials said. "It is the city's intent to complete the work prior to the start of school in the fall."

Local traffic will be allowed access to the road, and city officials said crews would try to "limit inconvenience to the neighborhood" by coordinating with garbage haulers, postal workers and emergency responders, which will retain access to the roads.

Heavy equipment in the area means local residents will likely experience some noise as the culvert in installed, officials said.
