More than 20 Hillsboro firefighters responded to the scene, authorities said,

COURTESY PHOTO - More than two dozen firefighters tackled the blaze on Sunday, Sept. 2.According to Hillsboro Fire Department spokesman Bruce Montgomery, firefighters were called to Secure Storage, 4800 N.E. Cornell Road, on Sunday afternoon.

The fire was called in by the owner of the unit where the fire broke out, who was inside the unit at when he noticed smoke and flames, Montgomery said. The owner evacuated the space and called 9-1-1 once he was safely outside.

By the time firefighters with Engine 5, Truck 5 and Engine 6 arrived, they found flames coming from six storage units on the end of the building.

The flames spread to a total of 18 storage units before firefighters were able to cut through the metal doors of the units and spray water on the fast moving flames.

The blaze was under control about 20 minutes later, Montgomery said. A total of 25 Hillsboro firefighters responded to the fire.
