A Washington County jury found Tyrone Neil Murphy guilty of abuse against two victims.

Tyrone MurphyA Hillsboro man has been found guilty on multiple charges of sodomy, rape and sexual abuse dating back nearly a decade.

Tyrone Neil Murphy was tried in Washington County Circuit Court and declared guilty of most of the charges he was facing last Friday, Dec. 14.

Hillsboro police began investigating a complaint against Murphy last year. The investigation, led by Hillsboro Detective Anthony Johnson, eventually uncovered two other alleged victims.

The three alleged victims in the case, all female, were described by prosecutors as "previously known" to Murphy.

"It's very likely the magnitude of this case would never have come to light if not for the determination of Detective Johnson," said District Attorney Rayney Meisel, who prosecuted the case against Murphy.

The sex abuse allegations against Murphy date back to 2009, although he was convicted only of crimes committed between 2010 and 2014.

Murphy was arrested in May. When he was arraigned in Washington County Circuit Court that month, he pleaded not guilty to 11 criminal charges, all of them sexual in nature.

Murphy was convicted Friday of eight felony charges: four counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of first-degree rape.

The jury acquitted him of one count of second-degree sexual abuse, which had involved the third alleged victim in the case in 2017, court documents show. Two other charges — one of first-degree sodomy and the other of second-degree sexual abuse, both dating back to 2009 — were dismissed.

Sentencing is set for Jan. 23.

Murphy has a record of criminal behavior in Oregon. He was convicted of misdemeanor sexual abuse in 2010 and ordered to register as a sex offender.
