Man indicted in Hillsboro sexual assault case
Hillsboro police have arrested a 20-year-old man on charges be broke into a woman's home last month and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint.
Gabriel Moscote-Saavedra, of Hillsboro, was indicted by a grand jury last week on several charges. According to Hillsboro Police spokesman Eric Bunday, Moscote-Saavedra was arrested following the Dec. 2 assault on a woman in an apartment near Shute Park.
Officers were called to the Sunset Gardens apartments, 951 S.E. 13th Ave., in the early morning hours of Dec. 2, after a woman called 9-1-1, Bunday said. The woman told police a stranger had broken into her apartment, threatened her with a knife and then sexually assaulted her.
Bunday said the investigation led them to Moscote-Saavedra, 20, who lives in the same apartment complex. Moscote-Saavedra was arrested Dec. 19.
A week later, on Dec. 26, a Washington County grand jury indicted Moscote-Saavedra on three counts of sex abuse, as well as counts of first-degree sodomy, second-degree assault, unlawful sexual penetration, attempted rape, burglary and unlawful use of a weapon.
Moscote-Saavedra's next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 14.
