29-year-old Tyrone Neil Murphy was convicted last month of sexually abusing two women.

Tyrone Neil MurphyA Hillsboro resident convicted last month on felony rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Washington County Circuit Judge Theodore Sims sided with prosecutors who asked that Tyrone Neil Murphy, 29, receive a lengthy prison sentence.

"He has demonstrated time and time again that, when left in society, he will continue to create victims," said Deputy District Attorney Rayney Meisel, who prosecuted the case.

Murphy was convicted on eight felony charges Friday, Dec. 14, for crimes committed from 2010 to 2014. A Washington County jury found him guilty of abusing two women, but acquitted him on a charge alleging abuse of a third victim.

Prosecutors argued during the case that Murphy, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor sexual abuse and was ordered to register as a sex offender in an unrelated case in 2010, had demonstrated he had "failed to reform himself" after that conviction. Meisel described Murphy as "a person who has left a trail of victimization," urging Sims to hand down a tough sentence.

"He was given sex offender treatment, and he re-offended," Meisel said in court. "He was given probation, and he re-offended. When one victim escaped him, he moved on to the next."

A joint impact statement from the victims in the case was also read during Murphy's sentencing.

"His abusive pattern is a testament that he does not have the capacity to change," it stated in part. "We hope nobody else has to experience him the way we did."

Murphy will begin serving his sentence immediately, according to the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
