UPDATE: Authorities are looking for the person who intentionally shot a horse on Reidweg Road.

COURTESY PHOTO - Jasper, a 9-year-old Bay, was shot in a pasture south of Hillsboro. A horse shot at a private boarding facility south of Cornelius is expected to survive and residents are putting out reward money to catch the gunman responsible.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 32600 block of Southwest Reidweg Road on June 3 to a report that a horse had been shot. When deputies arrives, they found Jasper, a 9-year-old Bay, had been shot twice while in a pasture. Deputies said the animal was shot once in the face near its jaw and once in its left thigh.

The animal underwent surgery to remove the bullet in its thigh on Monday, deputies said. The bullet in its jaw will not be removed due to its location and risk to the animal.

Jasper is expected to survive.

A community member contacted the Washington County Sheriff's Office and is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the individual responsible for shooting Jasper. That reward comes in addition to a similar $500 reward offered by the Oregon Humane Society.

Deputies say they found several bullet casings on the roadside near the pasture, and it appears the animal was shot intentionally.

Anyone with information into the case is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office, 503-846-2700.
