The newspaper as well as the Hillsboro Tribune will move to new office space on Main St.The Forest Grove News-Times and Hillsboro Tribune newspapres will be vacating their headquarters on Pacific Avenue this month and moving to new office space in downtown Forest Grove.

Staff at the two newspapers have confirmed that a buyer has purchased the longtime newspaper office at 2038 Pacific Ave. The newspapers announced in June that company officials planned to sell its longtime home and seek new office space in Forest Grove.

Starting Aug. 1, the two newspapers will be based out of office space in the First National Bank building, 2004 Main St., about two blocks away from its current office. The newspapers will be based on much of the building's third floor. The building is also home to the Old Town Vault restaurant and The Hidden Closet boutique.

The News-Times building was purchased by Mark Kenzer, a Hillsboro property owner who manages a handful of office spaces in Forest Grove.

Kenzer told reporters he's undecided about what he'd like to do with the newspaper office, which includes a large ballroom upstairs, previously used by the Forest Grove Grange.

"My goal when I saw it is to improve it," Kenzer said. "It's been neglected, but it's a nice building. It's time to update it."

Kenzer said he'd like to hear from the community about what they'd like to see in the space.

"It would be nice to hear from people about what direction we should go," Kenzer said. He has considered separating the building into smaller sections, which he could rent to tenants.

"Unless a bank comes in there, I doubt they want the whole space," he said.

Kenzer is the former owner of Mystic Trader, which sold New Age gifts, but is likely better known in Forest Grove as the former owner of 28 acres on Forest Grove's west side, which was purchased for the controversial Gales Creek Terrace development.

The News-Times has been in publication since 1886, covering western Washington County. The newspaper's parent company, Pamplin Media Group, launched the Hillsboro Tribune in 2012. The two newspapers share several staff and are based out of the same building.

The News-Times building has been home to the newspaper since 1985. The building was purchased from the Forest Grove Grange in 2000 shortly after the newspaper was purchased by Pamplin Media Group.
