The stage is set, the speakers are ready and the newly expanded Showtime Concert Series (formerly Showtime at Shute) is here to let the good times roll.
Hillsboro residents can soon enjoy free concerts, dancing and fun at Shute Park and now AmberGlen Park on Thursday evenings this summer. The first five concerts — kicking off Thursday, July 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. — will remain at the traditional location of Shute Park, with the last two moving east to AmberGlen Park.
"On August 15 — the date of the first concert held at AmberGlen — we'll actually be unveiling a new piece of public art, Elemental Sequence, just prior to the entertainment," said Mary Loftin, Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Community Resources Manager.
In addition to the unveiling, Loftin says the expansion to AmberGlen serves to bring more community activities over to the east side.
The series will feature a variety of music including country, rock and roll, Latin jazz, indie and even an Aerosmith Tribute band, Aerosmith Rocks, topping the summer lineup.
"We always try our best to build a lineup of performances just as diverse as our community," Loftin said.
Each of the seven concerts will feature a different artist or group for a two-hour set, entirely free and family-friendly with food available for purchase nearby. These concerts will run until summer nears its end, finishing up with country group Cloverdayle on Aug. 22.
