Deputies say the man survived the crash after the dump truck he was operating drove off cliff.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies rescued a 90-year-old man after he reportedly drove a dump truck over a cliff outside of North Plains on Monday afternoon, July 15.

According to Sgt. Danny DiPietro, a 90-year-old man was driving the dump truck in the 18200 block of Dixie Mountain Road when he somehow lost control of the vehicle and drove off the side of an embankment at about 3:20 p.m. The vehicle reportedly rolled and then fell about 10 feet off a cliff

According to DiPietro, the man was trapped inside the vehicle for more than an hour. Rescuers didn't arrive at the scene until shortly before 5 p.m.

"It took about 90 minutes before anybody realized he was down there," DiPietro said.

The man was rescued from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

His condition was not known, DiPietro said, and it's unclear what caused the crash.

Deputies are investigating.
