Deputies with the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office recovered the body of Chaitanya Sathe, 35, from the park near Redmond, after he fell at about 9:40 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24.

SatheSathe was a member of Mazamas, a nonprofit mountaineering group based in Portland. The organization confirmed Sathe's death on social media.

"We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends," Mazamas wrote. "… Chaitanya's bright light and spirit will live on in our hearts."

"His climbing partner was ahead of him and did not see the accident occur," Mazamas wrote. "Two climbers below responded to Chaitanya who was pulseless and not breathing at the base of the cliff where his body came to rest."

Members of the Mazamas are planning a celebration of Sathe's life at Mazama Mountaineering Center in the near future, the group said, and the organization is asking anyone with photos and memories of Sathe to share them on the group's social media pages.
