UPDATE: Beaverton man dies in Highway 26 crash
A Beaverton man died early Friday afternoon, Aug. 30, in a single-car crash on Highway 26 west of Banks, according to Oregon State Police.
The crash at the Dennis L. Edwards Tunnel near Manning was reported at about 12:10 p.m., police said.
Ken Duong, 48, of Beaverton was identified Friday evening as the operator of the car that crashed, a Toyota Yaris. He was critically injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The Toyota was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway and struck the tunnel, police reported. Crash investigators haven't determined why.
Highway 26 was closed in both directions for about three hours.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and multiple fire and rescue agencies.
