PMG PHOTO: CHRISTOPHER OERTELL - McAfee's Hillsboro office.Cybersecurity company McAfee will lay off 107 employees at its office in Hillsboro at the end of this year, according to a notice sent to the state on Oct. 17.

The company expects the layoffs to be permanent, the notice said. They are expected to take place by Dec. 31.

Most of the employees being laid off are software development engineers, according to the company's notice.

McAfee has about 325 employees at its Hillsboro office.

In a statement, McAfee said it "continues to invest in growth areas and optimize processes to put the customer at the core of everything we do and to accelerate our device-to-cloud cybersecurity strategy. To do this, we must balance the needs of the business with those of our workforce. We approach these decisions thoughtfully and with care for impacted employees."

Permanent layoffs of this size must be reported to the Oregon Employment Department under the Worker Retraining Notification Act of 1988.
