The hospital announced the name change on Nov. 13, three years after creating a clinical partnership with OHSU.

Tuality Healthcare's Hillsboro hospital.Tuality Healthcare announced Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, it will be changing its name to the Hillsboro Medical Center in an effort to more clearly align itself with Oregon Health & Science University.

"Presenting as a unified OHSU Health system and Hillsboro Medical Center makes it easier for patients to understand their access to care includes expanded primary and specialty care across western Washington County, and the latest clinical trials at the South Waterfront or Marquam Hill," read a statement from Liz Layman, spokesperson for OHSU.

The Hillsboro nonprofit hospital and the Portland teaching hospital partnered for a clinical affiliation in 2016. It allowed patients to access any physician working in either hospital.

Tuality maintained an independent board of directors, employees and doctors, and OHSU began managing Tuality's clinical operations with the recently-formed management company OHSU Partners.

Tuality has seen recent growth. In February, the hospital opened its South Hillsboro Primary Care Clinic in response to substantial growth planned for the area. The family medicine clinic plans to have 10 to 12 faculty and 24 family medicine residents working by 2024.

The name Tuality has been used by the hospital for more than 60 years.

In 1955, Jones Hospital, which established its six-bed Hillsboro hospital in 1918, was purchased for $210,000 and turned into a nonprofit institution, Tuality Community Hospital.

"Tuality was the name of one of the original four districts of the Oregon Territory, which in turn was named after the Atfalati branch of the Kalapuya tribe indigenous to the area," the company notes on its website.
