The Hillsboro Police Department is investigating after the teen was found underwater after swim practice.

A teenage girl died in an apparent drowning Wednesday evening, Nov. 20, at Shute Park Aquatic & Recreation Center in Hillsboro, according to police.

Hillsboro police said the girl, whose name has not been released, was found underwater in the pool after a swim team practice.

"Both lifeguards and medics attempted resuscitation, but unfortunately, it wasn't successful," said Sgt. Eric Bunday, spokesman for the Hillsboro Police Department.

The police department said Hillsboro officers and other emergency responders responded to the drowning at 9:26 p.m. Wednesday, at Shute Park Aquatic Center, located at 953 S.E. Maple St.

Bunday said the teen was a member of her high school swim team, which had been practicing in the pool Wednesday evening. Police are working to determine what led to her death.

"We're still doing interviews and investigating," Bunday said.

More information is expected to be released Thursday morning, Nov. 21.
