Lisa Akers was apprehended the morning after two people were shot south of Hillsboro.

The suspect in a double shooting in the Midway area south of Hillsboro is now in custody, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office announced Saturday evening, June 20, that 39-year-old Lisa Akers had been taken into custody in Grant County.

The person who died in the Friday, June 19, shooting is identified as Kara M. Ewing, 25, a resident of Cherry Grove. Also injured in the attack was a 41-year-old Hillsboro man, whose name has not been released.

Authorities described the injuries of the Hillsboro man as "life-threatening" on Friday night, but in Saturday evening's update, they said he is expected to survive.

Investigators believe the suspect and victims were known to each other.

No charges were immediately announced against Akers on Saturday.
