Hillsboro man sentenced for raping three people
A 21-year-old Hillsboro man pleaded guilty Thursday, June 18, to multiple sex abuse charges after prosecutors say he raped two underage girls and another victim.
Marco Antonio Xiap-Jelkes Jr. was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison. His charges included first-degree forcible rape, first-degree forcible sodomy, second-degree rape and second-degree sexual abuse.
The Hillsboro Police Department began an investigation after the mother of one of the victims told police her child and a friend were both raped by Xiap-Jelkes in April 2018.
Court records show one victim was under the age of 14 and the other victim was under 16. Xiap-Jelkes was 19 at the time.
In 2019, investigators learned of a third victim who reported she was raped by Xiap-Jelkes in June that year.
According to prosecutors, Xiap-Jelkes met the third victim on social media and convinced her to meet him at a public park in Hillsboro, where the attack took place.
Court records show Xiap-Jelkes' two underage victims were mentally incapacitated when the attacks took place and his third victim had a mental disability.
He had not been convicted of a crime as an adult prior to the case, court records show.
