Woman arrested for hitting Hillsboro cop with car
A woman caught on camera backing out of a parking space at Tanasbourne Town Center as Hillsboro police officers attempted to contact her was arrested Monday, Feb. 22, on charges of assaulting a police officer, attempting to elude and other offenses.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says Linsey Gail Perry sent a police officer to the hospital when she reversed to drive off during the Feb. 6 incident outside Old Navy, 11175 N.E. Evergreen Parkway, striking and briefly dragging him along the ground with her open driver's-side door.
Portland police located and arrested Perry Monday. She was lodged at the Washington County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, failure to perform the duties of a driver, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of intoxicants, along with the charges for assault of a peace officer and felony attempt to elude.
The officer was hospitalized for treatment but was expected to make a complete recovery, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office says Hillsboro police attempted to remove Perry from her vehicle after discovering the vehicle had been reported stolen in Portland. Perry was reportedly not cooperative before reversing, knocking the officer to the ground with her car door, and driving off.
Body-worn camera footage showed the suspect backing up and the officer being dragged and then tumbling to the asphalt. The car drives off as officers run after it, shouting "stop!"
The stolen car was reportedly recovered later that day in Beaverton.
