People can submit proposals to open a business in the space previously occupied by Starbucks through May 25.

COURTESY PHOTO - Hillsboro Civic CenterThe Hillsboro government is looking for a restaurant, café or retailer to open a new location in its vacant Civic Center Plaza space.

The nearly 1,700-square-foot space used to be occupied by a Starbucks, which closed the location last summer after being there for 15 years.

The storefront is at the intersection of South First Avenue and East Main Street in downtown.

"The City of Hillsboro seeks a qualified restaurant or retail tenant for the space in an effort to advance the city's vision and goals for downtown, deliver needed food service or other curated retail opportunity and contribute to downtown's vibrant mix of businesses," reads Hillsboro's request for proposals.

People can apply for the space by submitting a proposal on the city's website through 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 25.
