Hillsboro police say an unknown suspect used a stolen pickup truck to wrench an ATM out of the ground at a local credit union early Sunday morning, Jan. 16.

Patrol officers responded to a report of a theft in progress at First Tech Credit Union, 5860 N.E. Cornell Road in Hillsboro, at about 3:25 a.m. Sunday, the Hillsboro Police Department said.

Police say they found a black 2006 Ford F-350 truck with a chain hooked to it, as well as an ATM with "extensive damage" that had been torn off its moorings at a kiosk.

The truck had been stolen "minutes prior" to the incident, then was abandoned at the scene after being used to dislodge the ATM, according to police.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident. Police are actively investigating and examining evidence in an effort to locate the person responsible.

The incident in Hillsboro is similar to one last November in Tigard, in which an ATM was pulled out of the ground at Chase Bank and dragged across a nearby parking lot. A Ford F-350 was also the vehicle used in that incident before being abandoned at the scene, Tigard police said.
