UnCorked! in Forest Grove
Wine lovers rejoice, Western Washington County's highlight for the summer, Forest Grove UnCorked, returns to town this August. The event has become a signature event for Forest Grove, which finds itself nestled between several wineries.
In its 11th year, UnCorked fills Main Street with vendors ranging from fine wineries, micro-brew beer, spirits, and food on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. In the past, up to 2,000 people have flocked to try the latest creations of wineries like Apolloni Vineyards and Dauntless Wine Company.
Admission is $10 for everyone over 21 years old, and nominal tasting fees may apply. Portion of gate proceeds will go to the Western Washington County Firefighter's Association.
Founded by Dawn Houser and her husband, they and five board members prepare all year for the event.
Forest Grove Outlaws, a local band, will perform for the first time this year along with other live music. Fine art will be featured, as well as raffle opportunities. Last year's raffle contents amounted up to $4,000 worth of prizes and this year, over 98 percent of the vendors are contributing to the raffle collection.
"The mission of Uncorked is what makes it special," said Dawn Houser, a resident of Forest Grove for more than 30 years. "We support public safety and have a separate fund for nonprofit veteran organizations. To date, we have given almost $25,000. People are very giving and it makes the event wonderful. Our vendors are amazing people. Some of them don't have the chance to have people taste their work until this festival and some are local wineries who support us."
