The Century boys wrestling team came about as close as it could to winning the Bob Beisell Wrestling Invitational without actually doing so.

That meant that all in all, the Jaguars had a pretty solid day on Saturday at the annual Forest Grove competition. The squad crowned three wrestlers as champions in their respective weight classes en route to finishing second in the 10-team field with 179½ points. Sunset won the tournament with 185½ points, followed by Century. Beaverton (144½), South Albany (142½) and the host Vikings (141½) trailed as a closely packed bunch in third, fourth and fifth.

Junior Amari Sengsavanh continued his undefeated run this season by winning the 132-pound championship. After receiving a bye in the first two rounds, he defeated North Salem’s Adan Ramos by fall in the semifinals and South Albany’s Chris Morgan by technical fall in the final.

Brennan Baccay and Lucas Scott also finished as champions for the Jaguars.

Like Sengsavanh, Baccay has been having a stellar season, which he maintained by winning at 126 pounds. Baccay turned back Jordan Villarreal of South Albany by fall in the quarterfinals before scoring technical falls against Daniel Diaz of Beaverton and Grant Bingham of Sunset.

Scott earned his title at 195 pounds. He pinned St. Helens’ Dan Elliot in the quarters, earned a major decision against Benson’s Robert Caudillo in the semifinals and then pinned Putnam’s Doug Fry in the final.

Nine other wrestlers posted top-six finishes for Century, including runners-up Elias Baxter and Jamarcus Grant.

Baxter finished second at 152 pounds, losing a tight 14-11 decision to Reynolds’ Bahr Trayhorn in the final. Grant dropped a 6-1 decision to Edwin Montes of North Salem in the 182 final.

Other place-winners for the Jaguars were Ryley Bilderbeck, third at 145; Tyler Pellum, third at 160; Matthew Waibel, fourth at 138, Brandon Brodrick, fourth at 170, Andrew Horton, fifth at 220; Kevin Garcia, sixth at 160; and Blake Stiefel, sixth at 120.
