Shafer was selected as the Metro League co-Player of the Year.In an always-tough Metro League, two Hillsboro softball players stood out this spring and shared the league's Player of the Year award on the list of 2017 all-league honorees.

Century sophomore Gavyn Shafer and Glencoe junior Ashlynn Bailey were selected as co-Players of the Year along with Jesuit's Olivia Strickland. In addition to Bailey, Glencoe boasted five other all-league selections, with three total first-teamers, two second-teamers and one honorable mention.

Century, in addition to Shafer, added one second-teamer and an honorable mention selection.

The Tide, which finished tied for first in the league and made a run to the OSAA 6A State Softball Championship quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion North Medford, were represented on the All-Metro first-team by Bailey, who was also an all-league volleyball player for the Tide, junior pitcher Isabel Womack, and senior third baseman Sydney Sahlfeld, who signed a letter of intent to play softball for Pacific University in the fall. Glencoe second-teamers included a pair of dynamic sophomores, shortstop Morgan DeBord and outfielder Jensen Becker, who started the entire season and were key contributors to a veteran team trying to get back to the state title game.

Senior Jessica Vice, who like Sahlfeld is signed to play in college (Linfield), made the honorable mention list after hitting .412 for the Tide this past season.
