The second phase of development would include constructing a second multi-use sports facility to the west.A sports complex planned along Brookwood Parkway seeks to bolster Hillsboro's inventory of private volleyball courts and multi-use sports venues.

The so-called Brookwood Sports Complex was recently approved by Hillsboro's Planning and Zoning Hearings Board on July 6. It now moves to the site plan review and building permitting process.

The first phase of the development, proposed by K5 Holdings and presented to the city by Beaverton architectural firm CIDA Inc., is to convert an existing warehouse facility at 3085 N.E. Brookwood Parkway, near the Hillsboro Brookwood Library, into a sports facility. The proposal calls for seven to nine volleyball courts, which would be utilized by local youth from ages 12 to 19.

The space was previously used as a solar panel manufacturing facility, staff reports note. The site is right across the street from the Hillsboro School District offices, and next door to Dynic USA, a specialty textile manufacturer.

A second phase of the development, a new 63,000 square-foot building, would be constructed to the west of the existing warehouse. It would include a mixed assortment of sports courts, a restaurant, offices, and storage facilities.

The lot is zoned for industrial use, but indoor commercial recreation facilities are allowed under the city's building code with conditional approval. The applicants secured this approval from the Planning and Zoning Hearings Board.
