Weekly newspapers will move from longtime home on Pacific Avenue this summer.

For more than three decades, 2038 Pacific Ave., in historic downtown Forest Grove, has been home to the News-Times newspaper, which covers the cities of Forest Grove, Banks, Gaston and the surrounding area. The office is also home to the Hillsboro Tribune newspaper, which Pamplin Media Group launched in 2012.

No timeline has been released for a possible move, but the sale of the building is expected to take place by July, company officials said.

Publisher Nikki DeBuse said the two newspapers will re-located to office space in Forest Grove.

The News-Times building has been home to the newspaper since 1985. The newspaper purchased the building from the Forest Grove Grange in 2000 shortly after the newspaper was purchased by Pamplin Media Group.

DeBuse said that the newspapers' current building, which includes a second-story grange hall, kitchen and other amenities, no longer fits the needs of the two newspapers.

"The grange hall upstairs was a busy community space for years, full of dances, quinceañeras and parties," DeBuse said. "People gathered here for all sorts of great occasions. This space has been largely unused for years, it's a shame that it's so empty ... Somebody could do something amazing in this space that contributes to downtown. It should be active; it should be a place where people come together."

The News-Times has been in publication since 1886, and DeBuse said there are no plans to shutter the longstanding newspaper, nor the Hillsboro Tribune.

"The News-Times is committed to being in Forest Grove," she said. "This community has been great to us, and we are, after all, the Forest Grove News-Times. We're here to stay. Neither newspaper is going anywhere."

DeBuse said a formal announcement will be made in the two newspapers when a new location is finalized.
