Four things buyers should look for at an open house
Open houses can be a great opportunity to take a closer look at a house and get your questions answered by the seller's agent, but after visiting a few, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. Take photos and notes of each house you visit, and be on the lookout for these four things:
1. Natural light - Make sure there are enough windows to let in natural light. Pay attention to which directions the windows face, and where the light will be coming from at different times of day.
2. Water damage - Keep an eye out for water damage on the ceiling or baseboards. Even a small stain could be a sign of a larger issue.
3. The exterior - Take a walk around the outside of the house. Pay careful attention to the roof and the foundation. What is the condition of the shingles and gutter? Are the any noticeable cracks in the foundation?
4. The neighborhood - There are many things you can change about a home, but the location isn't one of them. When visiting a house, take a look at surrounding amenities, schools, and streets. At Harnish Properties, we understand all the neighborhoods in Lake Oswego and can help find the right one for you.
