Mike Keeler, Vic's Auto Center - LAKE OSWEGO AUTO REPAIR INSIDERWith Daylight Savings Time ending on Sunday, Nov. 3, we all need to be aware of how this affects our driving habits.

And even though we do gain an extra hour of sleep and more light when we get up in the mornings, everyone's night-time commute home is a different story. Because sunset comes earlier, some drivers have trouble with visibility and drowsiness.

According to the National Safety Council, traffic fatalities are three times greater at night than during the day. Ninety percent of your reaction time depends on your ability to see what's around you. Depth perception, color recognition and peripheral vision decrease after sundown, increasing the likelihood of a car accident.

Get a jump on the time change and make sure your car is ready beforehand by making an appointment to have your car checked at Vic's Auto Center in Lake Oswego. We'll make sure all your lights are checked and cleaned - including your headlights, taillights, brake lights, signal lights and fog lights. After all, you want to see and be seen by other drivers on the road.

Are your front and rear window defrosters working properly? Are your high beams working? Remember to use your low beams when you need to see about 250 feet in front of you and high beams when your visibility range is 350 to 500 feet.

To make sure your car is prepared for driving at night, as well for whatever Mother Nature has up her sleeve, contact Vic's Auto Center for an appointment.
