Mary Wong, Trios Studio - LAKE OSWEGO JEWELRY INSIDERPearls are one of our favorite things at Trios Studio. Their timeless beauty means they go with everything and make the perfect foundation for any jewelry wardrobe. That's why, every March, we showcase the stunning variety of pearls with our "Pearls of the World" event, featuring original designs with pearls from Tahiti, China, Japan, the Philippines and Australia.

Pearls have enthralled people for centuries. Black pearls were first discovered in the Sea of Cortez and brought back to Europe by explorers in the 1500s. They were coveted by royalty and the very wealthy and were often worn in portraits.

From the 16th century on, new discoveries revealed stunning variety: the Akoya classic white pearl from Japan; Tahitian and South Sea pearls; as well as freshwater pearls from China.

Cultured saltwater pearls were developed around 1900 in Japan and became widely available in the 1920s. After WWII, servicemen purchased Japanese cultured pearl necklaces for their wives or girlfriends, making them a fashion staple for American women in the 1940s and '50s.

At Trios Studio, we want to reimagine pearls in fun and creative new ways, whether casual or formal. During this year's "Pearls of the World" extravaganza from March 14th - 21st, we will celebrate their beautiful variety and captivating history with 20% off all pearls and pearl jewelry. Our celebration will kick off Saturday, March 14 with a trunk show from Koji Kawamoto, an international pearl supplier. Stop by and see us!
