Coronavirus, Providers and Telehealth: We are all in this together
Even before the coronavirus, telehealth was catching on rapidly as patients and doctors were seeing the value of connecting both the provider and the patient with visual and audio access via a digital appointment. Not only does this save someone from having to drive to and wait in a doctor's office, (parents love it) but it is also particularly important today in helping us to avoid exposing ourselves and others to the coronavirus.
Although telehealth is not recommended for those with emergencies or other situations that require a physical presence, I recently had an annual health review via this experience. It took a few minutes for both myself and the doctor to figure out how to do this as I had muted myself and the doctor did not yet have the video figured out, but in the end we both felt quite confident my needs were accomplished. There were, however, two requests by the doctor: a blood pressure machine to hold up the results to the video camera, and the ability to get to a lab to do my annual blood work. Even if you feel that you do not know what to do, a good chance is neither does your doctor. So, go ahead and make a telehealth appointment. Take care of yourself and be safe.
