When was the last time you had fun buying insurance? Most people regard the chore of buying insurance to be just that: a chore.

Michael DeLaGrange intends to change the insurance buying experience through his business, Insurance Lounge.

DeLaGrange said he began his career in insurance by happenstance.

“Two weeks after I graduated from University of Oregon, my dad died,” he said. “I had to decide between pursuing my dream of a career in professional football, or going back home to help in the family insurance business. Naturally, family comes first, so I went back to Grants Pass.” DeLaGrange had played football for the U of O Ducks and graduated with a degree in sociology.

For the next several years he was content to conduct the insurance business as usual, but started thinking of ways to make purchasing insurance more interesting.

“I evaluated the best aspects of online insurance companies and traditional insurance and blended them together,” he said. “What is fun and convenient?” He created the Insurance Lounge, which offers a new distribution model, focusing on convenience to the customer, technology and innovation and how to make the insurance shopping and buying experience efficient, fun and memorable.

The Insurance Lounge is the country’s first interactive retail storefront where customers can learn about insurance coverage, obtain a quote and apply for coverage. The retail store is open seven days a week, and until 6 or 7 p.m. Insurance hosts and hostesses, who are fully licensed insurance agents, do not work on commission, so there is no pressure to clients to buy any particular product. They offer home, auto, life, health, disability, long-term care, Medicare and business, investment and retirement products from more than 100 partner insurance carriers.

“The whole purpose is to make insurance easier to purchase and understand for customers,” DeLaGrange said. “Customers can use our informational kiosks to do their own research or our agents will help them. Customers get one-on-one personal attention for any need that could arise.”

Based in Grants Pass, Insurance Lounge has retail space in Medford as well as Lake Oswego with another Portland area store planned, located in Kruse Village at 4859 Meadows Road.

Insurance Lounge is one of the fastest growing agencies in the nation and the number one health producer in Oregon.

An open house event is planned for today, June 11 at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
