And he hopes the general public will take advantage of a new method of treatment he is offering to enjoy a better quality of life, too.

He is now certified and experienced in Advanced Muscle Integration Technique, a treatment that has been used by Olympic and professional athletes for more than three decades. The system has been able to correct acute and chronic problems and allow athletes to perform at levels they had not considered possible.

Robinson learned AMIT from the system’s developer, Dr. Craig Buhler. Buhler served as team chiropractor for the National Basketball Association’s Utah Jazz for more than 20 years. At the time, Robinson was working with several players from the Sacramento Kings and wondered about Buhler’s treatment, as the Jazz was the most injury-free in the league.

Buhler has since retired and founded AMIT, sharing his treatment with Olympians and other athletes and training other medical professions on the method.

Robinson explained that when a muscle is overused one of two things will happen: the muscle will tear or the nervous system shuts off the muscle to avoid further damage.

“In these cases the shut off muscle will ache and not work properly,” Robinson said. “Your body will then adapt by using other muscles and tissues to compensate for the non-working muscle, causing imbalances which lead to more pain and even more injuries.”

Through an analysis process, the muscle that is “shut off” is identified, and then can be restored to its full function.

On the website,, Buhler states that “AMIT practitioners can predict injuries by examining and identifying instabilities in the body, which in most cases lead to injury. The new advanced therapies utilized in AMIT procedures allow for rapid corrections of instabilities resulting in improved function, removal of pain and an overall new level of performance.”

“This treatment focuses on function, on how the body should work,” Robinson said. “It’s a matter of activating the right muscle. We are seeing wonderful results.”

Robinson, who moved his practice from southwest Portland to Lake Oswego earlier this summer, is also a certified National Strength and Conditioning Specialist and an Active Release Technique provider, both of which are used for treatment and conditioning of athletes.

He has worked with professionals in Major League Baseball, National Football League, and Professional Golf Association as well as with soccer and track athletes.

He is concerned about high school athletes and the injuries that plague them, as well as weekend warriors. He hopes they will utilize AMIT, as it is no longer available only to professional athletes and Olympians.

“Summer is a great time to heal,” Robinson said. “Don’t wait until the start of the season. Get your body ready for sports now.”
