POS to host preview party

Portland Open Studios will host its third annual preview party and show from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Oregon Society of Artists. Attendees will be able to check out the artists participating in this fall's Portland Open Studios under one roof. The event is free and open to all. Oregon Society of Artists is located at 2185 SW Park Place in Portland.

Rebecca Kilgore recording live at Teutonic Wine Company

Jazz vocalist Rebecca Kilgore will present a live recording session with Grammy nominee Randy Porter on piano and Tom Wakeling on bass Sept. 26 at Teutonic Wine Company, 3303 SE 20th Ave., Portland. General admission tickets to the concert only at $25 and the dinner and concert cost is $45 per person. The dinner menu includes Bolognese de Pastore (beef and pancetta ragout topped with crusted mashed potatoes), side salad and dessert. Vegetarian options are available and wine will be sold separately. Family-style dinner seating is available between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Celebrate Kids' Courage Oct. 8

The Shadow Project invites families to attend a free event taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at Oregon Public House, 700 NE Dekum St. in Portland. The event is intended to boost academic success and close the achievement gap for children with learning challenges like dyslexia, autism and ADHD. Parents will be shown tools such as a sensory space and audiovisual technology specifically designed for children with disabilities. The schedule includes an opportunity to meet Timber Joey, the mascot of the Portland Timbers from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., read to Molly the therapy dog from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and share story time with the author of "The Boy Who Learned Upside Down" from 3 to 5 p.m.

Each child will receive a Family Reading Kit, which includes a water bottle, handheld fidget for stress relief and focus and a book.
