The Pride of Portland Chorus is preparing for the 72nd annual Sweet Adelines International Convention and Competition to be held Oct. 15 through 20 in St. Louis, Missouri. As a warm up to the competition and to raise funds for the trip they will present a concert titled "Meet Us in St. Louis" at 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center in Canby.

The Pride of Portland is one of more than 700 Sweet Adelines International choruses worldwide, and is one of a handful that consistently finish in the top ten at international competitions. In addition to hearing this perennial regional champion, audience members will be entertained by the Renegade Quartet, LiftOff Quartet, Bridge Town Sound Chorus and Allegro Dancers.

After just six months together Renegard Quartet won the 2017 Harmony Sweepstakes Northwest competition, and then placed high enough at the North by Northwest Region 13 competition to be named a Wildcard for Sweet Adelines International 2017 competition, where they finished 11th. They will compete in St. Louis, also.

Also competing in St. Louis will be LiftOff Quartet, the 2018 North by Northwest Regional 13 champion quartet. The foursome are all experienced barbershop singers, but their first contest together as a quartet took place in April, where they brought home the gold.

Bridge Town Sound (BTS) Chorus aspires to be the premier men's a cappella chorus in the Pacific Northwest. They have won the all-Oregon Barbershop Chorus Contest numerous times, most recently in April 2014.

Tickets to the concert are $25 general admission and $15 for students and seniors age 65 and older, or $50 for VIP tickets which include premium, reserve seating, champagne reception with a light buffet and the opportunity to mingle with Master 700 Director Ryan Heller and all chorus and quartet members.

The fun continues after the show with food and festivities at the Afterglow party at the nearby Canby Adult Center. Tickets are $15 and include dinner. There will be more performances, a 50-50 raffle, cash bar and tag zone.
