Looking for something special to do this weekend and into next week? Check out this list of entertainment options. Most are free and many are family-friendly.
Oct. 5 (5 to 7 p.m.) — Arts Council of Lake Oswego reception for Unveil Your Process at 510 Museum and ARTspace, 510 1st St., Lake Oswego. Check out prototype sketches and maquettes of the new sculptures in the Gallery Without Walls. The exhibit continues through Oct. 19. Free and open to all.
Oct. 5 (7;30 p.m.) — Nordic Northwest's Friday Night Lecture Series features Portland State University Professor Scott Burns presenting a new lecture titled "Development of the Beautiful Physical Environment of Denmark" at Cramer Hall, room 171 on the PSU campus. Burns is well known for his research in environmental geology. The lecture is free.
Oct. 6 (9 a.m.) — Garden Time TV on KPDX Fox 12. This week's episode covers planting lavender, the herb ashwagandha which may relieve anxiety and lower blood sugar, and planting peonies, followed by a special 30-minute edition of Garden Time from the Fall Home and Garden Show. Oct. 6 (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) — Gretchen Brauer-Rieke, a Certified Advance Care Planning Facilitator, will lead a conversation on end-of-life decisions at West Linn Lutheran Church, 20390 Willamette Drive, West Linn. She will explain documents that control health care decisions and help participants define their quality of life. $10 registration fee covers Advance Directive booklet, handouts and light brunch. Oct. 6 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) — Attend the Oregon State Archives annual open house, located at 800 Summer St. NE in Salem. The event will include a new gallery exhibit on the history of the Oregon State Fair, plus activities that include games, puzzles, coloring and trivia. Prizes and giveaways will be featured throughout the day. The event is free and light refreshments will be served.
Oct. 6 (3 p.m.) — Pride of Portland Chorus presents "Meet Us in St. Louis" at Brown Fine Arts Center, 950 SW 5th Ave., Canby. This Sweet Adeline International perennial champion chorus will present its program for the 72nd-annual Sweet Adeline International Convention and Competition to be held Oct. 15 through 20 in St. Louis, Missouri. Tickets are $25 general admission or $15 for seniors and students online at prideofportland.org.
