'Friends With Guns' is presented as part of the Fertile Ground Festival, now in its 10th year in Portland. The production will run Jan. 31 through Feb. 16.

Chapel Theatre Collective will present "Friends With Guns" as part of the 10th-annual Portland Fertile Ground Festival Jan. 31 through Feb. 16. Playwright Stephanie Alison Walker will be in attendance Feb. 1 and provide a brief talkback afterward.

This new dark comedy explores the complicated issue of gun proliferation when two young liberal couples are forced to confront their assumptions about who should own a gun — and why. The time of easy answers regarding this issue is long gone. In the wake of current events, people are "re-examining their beliefs of gun ownership."

"Friends With Guns" explores the question of what we can compartmentalize and what we cannot. It pulls the curtain back and does all this through a female lens," said Danielle Weathers, who plays Shannon in the play.

Other cast members include Jason Glick as Josh, Claire Rigsby

as Leah and Joseph Gibson as Danny.

Illya deTorres will direct the play, which was a finalist for the 2018 Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference.
