Fear No Music shines light on female poets

March is Women's History Month, and Fear No Music continues to champion underrepresented artists with an exploration of poetry by female writers, enchanced through the lens of new music.

The concert, titled "Because of Her, We Make Songs: Music for Female Poets," will take place at 7:30 p.m. March 25 in The Old Church Concert Hall, 1422 S.W. 11th Ave., in downtown Portland.

At the heart of the concert are five musical settings of the poem "I'm Nobody" by Emily Dickinson. These songs reflect a myriad of possible emotions behind Dickinson's deceptively straightforward lyrics. Composers are Lori Laitman, OBIE Award-winner Ricky Ian Gordon, Latin Grammy-winner Zeca Baleiro and Guggenheim Fellows Vincent Persichetti and Jake Heggie.

Tickets are $10 for students and seniors and $20 for adults at fearnomusic.org or $15 for students and seniors and $25 for adults at the door.
