For The Review, Tidings

Lake Oswego's municipal golf course will be offering junior golf lessons, clinics and camps this spring, including a camp during spring break.

The spring break camp will meet Monday through Thursday, March 25-28, and include introductions to both golf and tennis. Monday and Wednesday sessions will meet at the indoor tennis center, and the Tuesday and Thursday sessions will be held at the golf course. Sessions are open for children ages 7-10 and 11-13. The camps run from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

An intermediate junior golf camp will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday, March 27 and 29, for those with golf experience and sound basics. Students will learn how to choose clubs, execute better shots, chip and putt at a competitive level.

Sign up for either camp online at loparks.org.

The golf course will also sponsor a PGA Junior League for golfers ages 7-13, as well as a league for those 17 and under, featuring league play in a two-player scramble format against teams from other area courses. An orientation meeting for players and parents will be held at 6 p.m. on March 26 at the golf shop. Registration closes March 30 or whenever a roster of 12 players is reached. Practices will be held Thursday or Friday afternoons. Visit pgajrleague.com or call Tom Mueller at 503-534-5430.

Lake Oswego Junior Golf Club will also be formed this spring. Golf pro Gary Huffmaster will lead training and drills each Sunday with club group play each Monday, April 21-June 1, from 4-5:30 p.m. The fee is $200 if paid by April 1.

A Drive, Chip and Putt prep clinic will be held April 13, 20 and 27 from 9-11 a.m. This class prepares young golfers for competing in regional Drive, Chip and Putt competitions taking place this summer. To learn more, call 503-534-5689.

The Lake Oswego Golf Course is at 17525 Stafford Road in Lake Oswego.
