OCT offers sensory-friendly performance

Oregon Children's Theatre will present a sensory-friendly performance of "The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors!" April 6 at 11 a.m. in the Winningstad Theatre, 1111 S.W. Broadway in Portland.
Based on the best-selling children's book by Drew Daywalt, "The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors!" was co-commissioned by OCT and First Stage of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
"I chose 'The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors' because the book is laugh-out-loud funny," said Stan Foote, Artistic Director at OCT. "I grew up playing the game and the legend is all the more fun because it is part of our common human history."
During the performance the audience lights will be on and the lights and sounds of the show will be softened. Patrons are free to move around the theater, exit and re-enter the space, be as expressive as they want and bring items from home that provide comfort or familiarity (including electronic devices).
A Visual Performance Guide is available for families to download, which lays out just what to expect for your visit. Tickets for this performance are not available online, call the box office at 503-228-9571 to purchase.
"Offering a sensory-friendly performance is important to us and our vision to make theater accessible to all," Foote said. "We don't want families to feel they cannot participate with us for any reason."
