Parks fill with sounds of soul, Latin and LaRhonda Steele this week
For The Review, Tidings
Get that picnic basket packed and load up the sand chairs — there are free concerts and movies this week in Lake Oswego and West Linn parks. Here is the lineup:
THURSDAY, AUG. 8 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) — The Music in the Park concert series features Stump City Soul playing at Tanner Creek Park, 3456 Parker Road, West Linn. Stump City Soul is a collection of lifelong musicians from the Pacific Northwest with a passion for the hits of the 1960s and '70s. Stump City Soul delivers high energy dance tunes and features a full horn section and the amazing vocal talent of Dustin Bumgarner.
SUNDAY, AUG. 11 (6 to 7:30 p.m.) — Moonlight and Music concert features Todd Haaby at Millennium Plaza Park, 200 First St., Lake Oswego. Nuevo flamenco guitarist Todd Haaby and his Latin group Sola Via are one of the most sought after talents on the West Coast.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) — The Sounds of Summer concert features Precious Byrd at Westlake Park, 14165 Bunick Drive, Lake Oswego. Precious Byrd's renditions of modern and classic hits along with high-energy originals have earned them the title of Oregon's No. 1 Party Band multiple years running. The band features Grammy Award-winning bassist Lonnie Chapin and drummer extraordinaire Michael Summers, boasting one of the tightest rhythm sections around. Matched with the soulful high energy of front man Corey Parnell and his brother Casey Parnell on electric, Andy Warr on saxophone and lead guitarist Derek Williams, you've got a band ready to rock.
THURSDAY, AUG. 15 (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) — The Music in the Park concert series will feature Ants in the Kitchen with LaRhonda Steele at Tanner Creek Park, 3456 Parker Road, West Linn. Ants In The Kitchen is NOT your typical rock and roll cover band. They're an 8-piece horn band that plays a mix of classic '70s era funk, blues, and soul ... a danceable mix, but with the tone and force of a rock band. To add a whole new dimension to the band's prowess, they also feature "Portland's First Lady of Blues" LaRhonda Steele, as one of the band's primary vocalists. You don't want to miss this.
