Attend art workshop at Stub Stewart State Park
Hillsboro artist Ed Labadie is coordinating a sketching and painting workshop Sept. 9 and 10 at Stub Stewart State Park, located 33 miles northwest of Portland. Adult artists of all skill levels and mediums are welcome to register, learn valuable lessons and enjoy the companionship of others in the grandeur of the outdoors. Cabins are available, or artists can arrange their own accommodations.
Labadie will focus on the benefits of quick sketches for better paintings in a program with demonstrations and personal attention, featuring design and composition fundamentals resolved in the sketch.
PYP holding auditions
Since 1924, Portland Youth Philharmonic has been committed to inspiring young musicians throughout Oregon and southwest Washington, while also providing the highest quality music education possible. PYP will hold auditions for all of its ensembles at its office in southwest Portland through August.
Auditions last about 10 minutes are heard by the PYP conducting staff only. A list of requirements, tips on what to prepare, as well as an online application can be found at portlandyouthphil.org/auditions.
PYP believes that great music education should be accessible to every child. PYP provides need-based tuition assistance, as well as financial support for private lessons, instrumental rental, concert attire, and other expenses as needed. No musician will ever be turned away for lack of ability to pay. In 2018-19, 82 musicians (29% of enrolled musicians) received nearly $35,000 in aid.
